yepohchai

This is my first blog. Being born and bred in Ipoh, I always tell people wherever I go and meet, I will say from Ipoh. Thus, ' ipohmali ' usually is the first word that comes out from my mouth . I don't know how long I have been using the' ipohmali' thing but one thing's for sure I never fail to ignite some honest to goodness comments about Ipoh.

Oh, you are from Ipoh ah? I will say yep. I heard Ipoh got very good Chicken Hor Fun oh.. Yeah, indeed. There are no place in the peninsula where you can get Chicken Hor Fun like Ipoh.
Anyone who comes to Ipoh for a visit must not miss our famous Ipoh Hor Fun. I even got someone asking me to take them to several Hor Fun stall so they can taste for themselves the difference since they also heard not all the same. Of course, one man's meat is another man's poison. One may like the Loh Wong's hor fun better than the one in Cowan Street. Even we from Ipoh will never fail to patronise either one of these two stalls whenever the urge to have chicken hor fun crops up.
I will post more of Ipoh's other favorites later on.
Meanwhile, please feel free to drop your comments and I will try to please as many palates as possible! Ciao!

Yes, when you say 'One man's meat is another man's poison', I agree. However, most of the stalls in Ipoh serve good quality hor fun, maybe its the water in Ipoh. Another stall I would recommend is in Leech Street beside the House of Mirrors. Their kai see hor fun is superb. Try it.
As for Lou Wong, he has opened up a branch in Sunway Mas, PJ. I've been there a couple of times but I still prefer the shop in Jalan Gasing. It serves good chicken rice as well as Ipoh hor fun. Good stuff also. Yummy! My stomach walls are flapping already.

I am not from Ipoh but my brother-in-law is. But he has migrated to NZ for more than 10 years now. He used to own the Chinese restaurant Tai Seng in Green Lane. Whe I was younger (in secondary school), I used to visit him during the school holidays and I would roam the town day after day, eating at a different food stall each time.

Yes, as an Ipohite, I totally agree with you, when you tell people you are from Ipoh, the first thing from them will definetely be Ipoh Bean Sprout Chicken & Hor Fun, some said White coffee, but now no more, due to the franchise of Old Town...is available everywhere. Anyway, proud to be an Ipohite.
